Henry Shawah Goldsmith & Sculptor
By Henry Shawah Foreword by Agnes Gund
♦ Narrative and photographic overview of the life and work of this
goldsmith and sculptor who achieved stature and recognition both
in the United States and abroad, including being the first American
to receive the honorary title of Associate of the Worshipful Company
of Goldsmiths, London
♦ Beautiful illustrations complement this look at a truly
accomplished artisan
Stunning jewelry that exudes elegance and sophistication while playing off unusual and unique subjects is the hallmark of goldsmith and sculptor Henry Shawah. A native New Englander who opened his first workshop in Nantucket, he later set up his studio in Harvard Square. There, working primarily in 14-karat gold, he investigated relationships between common elements such as rusted iron or natural manzanita root and gold, rubies, or sapphires by integrating the materials into exquisite, refined sculptures and objects.
Agnes Gund is Director Emeritus of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York.
