Marylyn Dintenfass Paintings
Essay by Lilly Wei, Conversation with the artist by John Driscoll
Lush but also astringent, with a glittering coolness and reserve that offsets its heat, her work offers a bracing example of an experiential painting for the present. Dintenfass, as is obvious from her paintings, is a true believer in contemporary beauty.

Marylyn Dintenfass has emerged as a leading artist of her generation, known internationally for her paintings, sculpture, and prints. Her work has long been rooted in minimalism’s modular grid, yet supersedes it through her inspired imagery expressed through innovative unions of conventional and unconventional materials and techniques, employed to achieve a highly distinctive and original artistic vision.
Dintenfass first gained widespread recognition for her groundbreaking sectional-based sculpture installations throughout the United States, Israel, Italy, and Japan. She is an artist who has authoritatively explored many approaches, from millennia-old ceramic techniques to the most recent developments in digital technology; Marylyn Dintenfass Paintings is the most complete presentation yet published of this remarkable artist’s work.
Lilly Wei is a New York–based independent curator, critic, and essayist who contributes regularly to publications in the United States and abroad. John Driscoll writes on American art and is the owner of Babcock Galleries, New York. He also serves on the advisory board of the National Academy of Design and on the Visiting Committee, Department of Drawings and Prints, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
